Belvoir First Aid was established in early 2006 to provide event first aid and medical services to villages in the Vale of Belvoir and surrounding areas. Our experience was that these services were not well serviced by the existing larger first aid organisations, and community responder organisations are not permitted to offer first aid services.

BFA uses volunteers from the local villages who either have, or we can train to have, first aid certifications, First Person on Scene, Paediatric First Aid and higher, and who wish to use these to support the local communities. We are not an emergency service although many of our volunteers have quite extensive training and also undertake work for both the NHS and for private ambulance services as well. All our volunteers are trained in first aid according to HSE requirements, or First Person on Scene (FPOS). Most are also trained in CPR, Defibrillation and medical gases as well. A few are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and are authorised to drive our 4x4 ambulance, once they have completed their emergency driving courses. We also have several medcial practitioners who work with us where additional levels of medical care are required.

We cover small village events such as open days, school sports events and church fetes; medium size events such as runs and cycle rides; and larger events such as the Viking Challenge and Beaverfest which cover very large geographical areas. We also cover theatre, concerts and firework displays. We undertake first aid training in the local villages and also support local groups such as the Brownies (we are CRB cleared). We are focussed on the Vale and surrounding areas, although we have also assisted at Wembley! All major events get a post event report.

We have our own 4x4 ambulance for off road, field use and general support at events. We also have a mobile treatment centre for a base at larger events. The ambulance is equipped with stretcher, long board, medical gases (Oxygen and Entonox), first aid supplies, splints and a defibrillator and ECG. We have our own PMR radio system for use at events, and also work closely with Melton Raynet to provide support at events where longer range communication is required. We are also supported by InTechnology with state of the art 'push to talk' telephone walkie-talkies, and in September 2008 was the launch organisation for the new electronic event First Aid patient medical record system, developed jointly with the Healthcare Facilities Consortium and Dexterra Inc.

To book BFA at an event, you must contact us either by telephone (07967 699612) , mail or through the web site to check availability. As we use volunteers, we are reliant on their goodwill to attend. However if it is a large event we also have relationships with other first aid organisations locally and can often bring additional resources to help. In this event we will have to pass any costs on to you, so please book early! You will need to fill in a booking form that we can e-mail or post to you. We will liaise with the local ambulance service regarding your event and make sure they are fully briefed in case of any emergency.

We are a registered charity (1122209) and rely on the generosity of the public and local businesses to be able to offer this valuable service. Donations can be made directly to us; through collecting tins in local shops, pubs and doctors' surgeries; by donations directly to our bank (Barclays Bank Melton Mowbray) or though Paypal. Thank you for your support for this valuable local service. We hope we can serve you soon!
